Re: more birth announcements
in reply to a message by Jae
Some of these "kre8iv" spellings are fine:
Josian - A male medieval name
Samanta - Italian form of Samantha
Valery - Spelled Valéry, this is a male French-from-Germanic name meaning "foreing power"
Emi - A Japanese name
Adan - Spelled Adán, this is the Spanish form of Adam
Maree - Hate this as a "variant" of Marie, but if spelled Marée it means "tide" in French
Christoffer - Scandinavian variant of Kristoffer, itself the Scandinavian version of Christopher. Don't know if Christoffer is considered even mildly kre8iv in Scandinavia though
Gowri - Indian nameThat said, the one name that stood out the most for sheer WTFery was this: Rages. O_O Poor kid! Maybe the mother had a lot of pain during the birth, but still... Runner up is Le Maree, which I read as meaning "the tide". *Sighs* Third place is Iysis, which I've actually seen before, unfortunately as the name of a baby murdered by her teenage father. And as for the names I actually like:
Josian
Samanta
Edgar
Rosa
Marlene - I like this in both all three of its pronunciations: mahr-LAY-na, mahr-LEE-na, and MAHR-leen
Valery - Prefer Valerie or Valérie for a girl, leaving Valéry for the boys
Martin
Anson - I think this could also work well to honour the mother if she's named Ann (or some variant thereof)
Tiffany
Belle
Joy
Viviana
Emi
Tyra Jean
Esmeralda
Asa
Bianca
Scarlett - Also like Scarlet
Galilea - Like the sound, but not the religiosity (I'm atheist)
Gilbert Felix
Crystal
Nestor
Carissa
Cynthia Desiree - Prefer Désirée
Leilani - So-so on this
Nerissa
Aurelia
Adan Cortez - Judging from the mn, I'm betting they really did mean Adán instead of a kre8iv spelling of Aidan
Daisy Aileen
Sadie Isabella - Sadie sometimes reminds me of "sadism", but it doesn't right now for some reason
Ingrid Aimee - Prefer Amy, unless Aimee's really pronounced eh-meh (or eh-MEH) or eh-MAY, in which case it should've been spelled Aimée
Malachi Xavier
Penelope Rae - Prefer Raye or Raya for a girl
Hansel - I actually like this; pity it's so connected to the fairy tale :-(
Edwin
Berenice
Dario
Linda
Perla - Prefer Pearla unless you're Spanish or Italian
Belen - Prefer Belén
Renzo - Prefer as a nn for Lorenzo
Christiana
Marina
Esperanza
Flora
Mercedes - This is a lovely name that has been unfortunately unfairly connected with the car imo. The car itself, btw, was named after a young girl named--you guessed it--Mercedes
Octavio
Celeste
Claudio
Christoffer
Corey - Like for a boy only
Charlene
Camille - Like for both sexes
Freya Danielle - Dislike Freya--it reminds me of "fryer", and by extension "boiler-fryer chicken"--but Freya Danielle is a lovely combo
Bowen - Means "son of Owen" in Welsh (contraction of ap Owain, Owain having been Anglicised and the P having been converted to a B)
Eunice
Elliot - Prefer Elliott, but Elliot's fine too to my eyes
Giselle - Also like Gisèle and Gisela. The name of the best-damned blood-taker/IV starter at Victoria General Hospital: she always got my blood drawn or my IV inserted in one poke, even with my crappy veins! She was so good, we would always specifically request her if she was on. Sadly, she's retired now :-(
Ronan - Prefer RónánMiranda
