I like it!
I don't usually like names that have the "exotic" feel for me that Sonja has, but I like Sonja. (Maybe because I know what has influenced my feeling that way about it, and because I've met banal and interesting Sonjas)
I like both spellings, but if I used it I'd spell it Sonia just because the J pronounced as Y is non-English, and wouldn't "belong" on a daughter of mine.
Btw, I prn it SOHN-ya not SAHN-ya.
