Nevaeh
I know people usually run a mile from this name and the concept behind it - it's "Heaven" backwards, for those in the dark.
But how do you like it as a name? Forgetting everything else, do you think it sounds nice?

I like it even more because it is heaven spelled backwards. I really don't like the way it sounds though.
It's funny, I was just thinking about Neveah and let me tell you, I don't like it at all! The adjectives trite, silly and insubstantial all come to mind. Some friends of my husband's and mine have a daughter who is recently married. She's 21 and her husband is 20. They are expecting a little girl in April and they plan to name her Neveah Leigh (heavenly backwards). Their surname begins with a V and the whole effect is dreadful. When the mom-to-be announced the name, I didn't know what to say so I said nothing. My middle child asked me when we got home "Isn't heaven backwards hell?" Exactly my sentiments. What I find odd is that couple is also pronouncing the name with three syllables when heaven only has two. Another thing I don't like about Neveah is that I have to think twice when I write it down (think: heaven backwards). I'm not sure I like the sound of it either.
Speaking of backwards, there's a boy at my daughter's school named Tnomal. His father is Lamont. Tnomal is Lamont backwards. Isn't that awful? :-)
I hope my comments don't offend. Obviously, those who are drawn to Neveah have the very best intentions. Personally, I think there are much better ways to go about finding a heavenly/celestial name. I have thought of suggesting names to my friend's daughter that have a similar meaning such as Celia, Celina, Celeste, etc., but I don't want to hurt her feelings and she's such a nice person. Besides, it really is none of my business.

Novia
Nevaeh has a pretty sound but the heaven backwords thing is absolutely ridiculous. If you play a song backwords you're supposed to hear the devil, so maybe if you spell your daughter's name backwards she is the devil?
It's really silly imo.
A Spanish word that is similar in sound to Nevaeh is Novia, which means sweetheart (often used in reference to one's girlfriend). Real word, nice meaning.
Novia : no-VEE-uh
I would much rather see people name their daughters:
Heaven
Celestina
Star
Sky
Miracle
Milagros
Angel
or any other name having to do with the heavens or beautiful things than this boring made-up name, Nevaeh.

I dont like it, its really not my style
I like the sound. Actually, I considered using the name for a fictional character, but I settled on a different spelling: Naveya.
If it were a real name with a meaning other than "heaven spelled backwards," I might like it for a real person.

No, I do not...
I think it sounds very clumsy and awkward.

pretty name
I don't care for it. It looks sloppy, and I don't like the sound of it.
Sound-wise (neh-VAY-uh) it's pretty. But there is far more than sound in a name - some have definite connotations of socio-economic level, era, religious beliefs ... Nevaeh has all of those.
Firstly, I avoid all names that are tied to a class, even though I'm not class conscious in life. (I'd avoid Rupert just as much as I would Nevaeh.)
To spell a word backwards also seems to trivialise language - it's a childlike game, rather than the natural evolution of language. So as a linguist, I can't bring myself to like Nevaeh at all. I'm also irritated by the fact that "aeh" is a silly formation with no pronunciation in English. "AY-uh" is used for the nearest thing, but goodness knows what a more "correct" pronunciation should be.
Also, Nevaeh is a very sudden fad. It will no doubt become cheesy just as quickly, and date the child practically to the year. I like names that have been used steadily, not dated ones.
I hate that I can pinpoint a Nancy to the 1950s. It just makes me cringe, like legwarmers or 80s perms! And I find it no more refreshing if that date turns out to be wrong (e.g. if Nancy is actually twenty). In fact it's almost worse - like someone in a time warp LOL. OK I've gone off on a tangent ...
Basically I don't like Nevaeh for all those reasons. Sound is the most important thing, but other factors drown it out in this case, imo.

I might think it sounded decent if I only heard it said aloud, as nuh-VAY-uh ... and never realized it was heaven backwards. I'd picture it spelled Naveia or somesuch, and wonder if it was an invention. The Na- part at the beginning isn't my thing -- it sounds negative to me.
But every time I see it written down, I say to myself, "NEH VAH EH ... duhhh." It looks so stupid. Pronouncing a word backwards just isn't pretty. It's absurd. I'm not just trying to be snarky when I say that Nevaeh honestly looks to me like a name that someone mentally disabled would give her daughter. It looks disadvantaged, pathetic. Even if I didn't know it was heaven backwards, I'd think so... as long as it was spelled Nevaeh, anyway.
However, I admit I've never met a person named Nevaeh in real life, and I think meeting a real person named that might mitigate the negative reaction I have to it.

I would pron it ne-va-e, with the "e" like in "pet", or like "ay" without the "ee" sound. It's not ugly, but yeah... The trashiness and the bad luck potential (heaven backwards = hell) are awful...
I believe its prn. na-VAY-uh. It sounds nice, but I can't get past the heaven spelled backwards part....
I really hate it the name but I suppose it sounds nice if it is pronounced nev-ay-uh, if it's nev-ee-uh I dislike it completely
