I actually do think of a tall blond Swede.. it's painfully stereotypical. If I met a Britta, I'd probably wince if she was a tall blonde Swede, and wince if she wasn't. If she was Swedish, I'd decide it was a nice name, though. It seems a tad (I'm hating to use this phrase, but I really do have this impression as a first impression) "Euro-chic" on a non-Swedish girl or woman. I suspect that that impression would also fade, though, on getting to know a Britta. It doesn't give me as strong an impression as for, say, Milan.
In the US, most people will pronounce it with the T sound slightly blunted to a D sound (myself included).. it'd feel stiff and phony for us to say it with a nice crisp T. If you're in the US, that's something to take into account.
((by the way, it's a 'Brita' water filter -- not Britta; it does remind me of that, too. But not much, since I never thought Britta was the name of the filter.))
