Love it...would call her Evvy or Ev.

I'm pretty sure Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote a poem called Evangeline. I'd pronounce it e-VAN-jeh-leen. Nn Evan would stir some confusion; what about Evvy?

There's a characther on One Life to Live named Evangeline. It is pronounced E-Van-gel-een
I think it is pretty but since I love Evan for a boy, I wouldn't use the nn Evan for a girl

I think it's nice, especially for a mn. I pronounce it like
E-van-gel-een, and I'd only use it for a girl.

I think Evangeline is beautiful, but I don't like Even but I don't like nns in general

I love Evangeline! I think it sounds very soft, feminine, and poetic.I especially like the meaning, though; and I think the meaning would make it particularly well-suited for a long-awaited child or the first girl in a family of boys.I pronounce Evangeline e-VAN-je-leen, with the first syllable being somewhat soft. I don't like Evan for a girl by itself at all, but as a nn for Evangeline it's tolerable, and not too much of a stretch imo. I wouldn't use it deliberately, but if my daughter wanted to go by Evan, I wouldn't try to dissuade her.Though personally I would use Evangeline in full or with a nn like Ellie or Eva (EV-a), there are lots of other nns for Evangeline to consider:
1. Angel
2. Angeline
3. Ann / Anne
4. Annie
5. Effie (EF-ee) - Alteration of Evvie, in the mode that turned Molly into Polly and Rob into Bob in previous times
6. Eline (el-LEEN)
7. Ellie
8. Eva (EE-va or EV-a)
9. Eve (EEV or EV)
10. Evie (EE-vee)
11. Evvie (EV-ee)
12. Line (LEEN)
13. Van
14. Vannie / VannyMiranda

This is one of the names I'm concidering, so I love it. I wouldn't use Evan as a nick name because Evangeline isn't prn. Evan-geline. It's E-Van-gel-line.-Samantha

Evangeline is a great name, but I don't like the nickname Evan (for one, it's a boy's name; for another, it doesn't seem like it would be a nickname for Evangeline).

I pronounce it eh-VANN-jeh-lin, so Evan doesn't make a very natural nickname, in my opinion; I think it'd strike me as artificially attempting to masculinize the person's image. - chazda

Evan is boyish to me (I love it on a boy). Evangeline is nice but nms. I say it eh-vawn-zheh-leen.
