[Opinions] Dara
What do you think of this name for a girl? Which spelling do you like best?
Dara
Darra
Darrah
Darragh
And would you pronounce it Dar-a (rhymes with car) or Dare-ah? I pronounce it the first way. I think it's very pretty and not heard often.

I went to school with a Thai girl named Dara. Very sweet, pretty and somewhat shy. She pronounces it Dar-uh. It's a nice name.
I quite like it . . . I only like the Dara spelling, and it can only be pronounced DAH-ra (ie your pronunciation) in Australian.

Well, it's only female in Jewish or Khmer. In Irish it's male (Khmer's Dara may also be masculine). I pronounce it DAIR-ah, but I doubt that pronunciation is the same in all three ethnicities of the name.
I would, in any case, spell it Dara. Anything else looks kre8iv to me. And I'd especially avoid Darragh if it's for a girl, as it looks like a kre8iv pseudo-Irish spelling.
As for me liking it... I like it, but I'm not crazy about it. It sounds a bit boyish for a girl to me, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Dar(r)agh spelling
Dar(r)agh isn't actually kre8iv, although I realise it could be interpreted that way ... When a Gaelic name ends in "ach" or another formation with "h", it's very common for the Anglicised form to feature a silent "gh", which was seen as a reminder or the original Gaelic form.
Obviously Dara doesn't end in H, but the form Darach does (not sure whether that's on the database ...)
This can also be seen in Orla v. Orlagh, the latter spelling referring to the H ending of Ór(fh)laith :-)

PS
Forgot to add that Darragh is the commonest form in Ireland right now:

I like it! I would pronounce it the way you do, but I know someone named Darah who pronounces it like Dare-uh. I think most people tend to pronounce it that way, so it might be mispronounced a lot.
I pronounce it Dar-uh
I prefer Dora, but its still nice.

I like Dara or Daria, but my favorite D name is Dora.
I knew a Dara (I'd spell it that way or Darah)& it was pronounced like Sara(h) and I was quite found of it because it was different than all the other Sarahs in our age group, but not weird or to creative.
I think this name is adorable! spelle Dara and pronounced like you
:)
:)
First way for me. I like Dara spellt like this.

I prefer the name on a boy (it seems more interesting in that context), but it works fine on a girl too. It's popular in Ireland as a boys' name just now (spelled Darragh and Daragh, esp.), but having said that I know an Irish girl named Darragh. I think the Dara and Daragh spells are my favourites.
The girl who cuts my hair is named Dara. She pronounces it Dare-uh. I think it's lovely and has a really beautiful meaning.
Oddly, I was just thinking about this name last night! I don't really care for any D names, but this one that I like. I only like it spelled Dara. And I would pronounce it the same as you. Pretty. =)
