[Opinions] Larkin vs. Lestat
Replies
I'd never use any of them, but I think Lestat Talon sounds quite cool.
Larkin Sage, but Larkin Gerard isnt bad either
Of the two, I'd definitely pick Lestat. I'm a huge Anne Rice fan. And actually that will, without a doubt be my first son's middle name. But if it were a first name, some middle name considerations would be...
Lestat Kyan
Lestat Milos
Lestat Gerard (you've given me some inspiration)
Lestat Enrico
Lestat Valerio
Lestat Bernard
Lestat Kyan
Lestat Milos
Lestat Gerard (you've given me some inspiration)
Lestat Enrico
Lestat Valerio
Lestat Bernard
If I really had to, it would be Larkin.
Lestat is too 'Anne Rice' and surnamey. I know it's supposed to be a first name, but as a French girl I can tell you that I've never even heard of such a name, not even as surname!
Anne Rice made little mistakes with the French names, I suppose Lestat is another one :)
At the time of the story people could get rather creative with their kids' names, but not the aristocrats, and the creative names were for girls and not based on surnames...
So if I had to chose one of your combos: Larkin Gerard.

If I had to, I would choose Lestat. Both names remind me of vampires, especially Lestat, due to Anne Rice's vampire novels (gotta love 'em).
I would definitely not use Lestat Talon. It sounds too superhero/ tough, as many told me when I suggested the name Loki Blade. It's too harsh a combo.
Why not mix the fn's and mn's around?

Would never consider either..
There's a lady who (once) lived at the Nursing Home where I work part time. Her last name was Larkin, and she would always yell at the top of her lungs:
"My name is XXXXXX Larkin and I've wet my pants!!!!"
That's more than enough bad associations for me!
Especially since I was the one who had to change them....:(

I would never consider naming a kid Lestat, because the name itself is a recent artifact that symbolizes the most banal pop culture to me. Not that I'm not an Anne Rice fan; I am. But the name has nothing more to it than its being the name of a vampire - it's a figment of a vivid, highly sensual modern fantasy which pretty much everybody's heard of; and so I think it's unsuitably fey.
Too bad it's not anything more than that, because it would be a neat name if it was, say, an old French surname or somesuch. I suppose if the name caught on and there were real people out there called Lestat, that would change it somewhat.
Anyway, I'm a big fan of Larkin. Larkin Gerard is great! I wouldn't use Larkin because there are so many other names I like more, but I'd consider it.
