What do you think of the name Ethelinda for a CHARACTER (early 19th Century)?Also, which of these nicknames do you like:
Etha
Etheline
Ethelin
Ettie
Linda

I think Ethelinda seems a little more "Old English" than something I'd expect to be used in the 19th century. Considering the popularity of Ethel and Linda at that time, though, I don't think Ethelinda would be that improbable. As a name, I think it's lovely- one of my more eccentric favourites.I'd use Ettie as a nn. The others, except maybe Linda, seem a bit forced.ShannonEdited for some very odd grammar...

ive read a few regency era romance novels(1800's-20's) and to me they used some pretty strange names and they seem to go ok so go for it as a chartacter name as for a nn...... i think i would choose etha i pronaounce it as eh-tha(as in ethel) is that how you mean it to be pronouced?

My favourite nickname of the bunch is Etha, pronounced as you assumed (ETH-a).:)
