I pronounce it meh-LEE-ah or meel-EE-ah and the pronounciation mah-lee-ah sounds forced. If you want that pronounciation then use Malia or Maleah.

I like Melia. It is cute yet will age well IMO. It has a great meaning and I like that it is mythological.
