Help[Opinions] Elisa?
I'm curious about your thoughts on the name Elisa (prn. with a /s/ sound more than the German /z/ sound, like El-Lisa). I like Elise, but not the fact that it is so often mistaken for Elsie, which I don't like. Then I came across the name Elisa, which has a pretty sound and which I might actually elicit a thumbs-up from my husband. :) Thoughts?

I prefer Elsie and Elsa to Elisa and Elise, so I may not be much help, lol. But I can't say that the girls named Elise that I know have ever been mistaken for Elsie (though an Elsie I know has been mistaken for Elise!). Actually, I know an Elisa and she's called everything BUT her name--Elise, Alyssa, Alice, Alicia, etc. :-/ That would be more annoying, imo. Plus people won't automatically know how to spell Elisa, either.
Edited: Also, just something to be aware of -- ELISA is the name/acronym for the test for HIV.

about Elise/Elsie...

The reason I think Elise/Elsie could be a problem is b/c where I'm from Elise is very, very, very uncommon. Elsie is fairly common among the elderly, and you know how easy it is for people to switch 2 letters when they look at a name and mistake it for a different name that pops into their head more immediately.
Someone posted this comment on BTN about Elise:
"This is my name. I never have to worry about getting mixed up with other girls at school, because I am the only Elise. Not only is it pretty, it ages well. The only possible downside is constantly getting called Elsie by people who can't read."
On the other hand, there is a similar comment about Elisa:
"My name is Elisa, and I really like it apart from the fact that it's hard for people to remember or pronounce straight away. I get called Alyssa, Eliza, Elise, Elsa, Elsie and Ailsa. It is pronounced the same as 'Lisa' with an 'E' on the front, ie: el-ee-sah."
So - I guess you can never win! Some people will always mispronounce a name, unless it's something like Sara. :)

I don't like it at all. I strongly dislike Elise, and Elisa is no more appealing to me.
However, about Elise being mistaken for Elsie: It's not gonna happen (imo). A little girl named Elsie might get mistaken for Elise but I doubt it would happen the other way round.
