[Facts] Origin of Achsah
I have recently discovered that my great, great grandmother's name was Achsah Townsend. She came from Moravia. Not only do I NOT know where Moravia was, I have no idea on the origin or meaning of this first name.
The only other person I have ever heard of with the name Achsah was African American and I assumed the name was of African origin. Now, I'm not so sure. This is an interesting puzzle. Can anyone help on EITHER of these questions?

Its Hebrew origin. From the bible. Achsah is the only woman in the bible to ask for what she wants.

Hey Lyn,
Moravia constitutes the bigger chunk of what is now the Czech Republic. It was once an independent unit in the Holy Roman Empire. The capital of Moravia was/is Prague. Nice city.
Are you/was she by any chance from North Carolina ? Most Moravians who came to this country settled there starting in the 1750's. There's still a big Moravian presence in the Winston-Salem area, including the restored Moravian village of Old Salem. Quite a few Moravian churches, too, which are now very similar to Presbyterian in doctrine. Moravian Christmas cookies kick butt!

According to Hitchcock's dictionary of Biblical names, Achsah means "Adorned; bursting the veil".
