This name is rather popular in South Africa especially amongst Afrikaans speaking people along with Lelani (La-lah-nee). It's not really my style. I much prefer Leila although I would never use it. Just curious - where did you hear of it?

I love it. Its on my list actually. I just recently started to love Hawaiian names. I dont think you have to live in Hawaii or be Hawaiian to use it. That would be saying you need to be a French or live in France to use a French name. All I really need is it to fit with the surname. Leilani doesnt work too well because my (to-be) surname ends with the same sound, and I dont like it. However, if it flows with your surname, I say go for it. NN Lani is cute (and more "Americanized" if people have problems with it).

Funny you should mention French names. Belle is very French and I'm not French at all. Neither am I Italian (my full fn is Belinda).

Anyway. Leilani is also one of my favourites. Hawaiian names are love. :)
