Braden is a very handsome surname however, it's incredibly popular these days and your son may have to use his last initial throughout school. It also competes with other incredibly popular "aden" names like Aidan, Caden, Jaden, etc. If popularity is not a concern for you then I say go for it.
Braden is the spelling I prefer personally as the pronunciation is straight forward. Bredan might get pronunciations like "Bread-in".
As far as nick names go, Aden or Brady would be very handsome. Bray is the sound a horse makes....
