It seems like yet another faux-Irish creation to me, so I think it would date since those are so fashionable now. Obviously it's a real surname, but it's a creation as far as first-name usage goes. Like

Otherwise, I think it sounds like someone is saying "
Brendan" with their mouth full. I definitely prefer
Brendan by a mile.
