It's been about a year since Lucas and I married, and our family has grown by one more! Little Ava Isabelle Tennyson arrived yesterday morning, right on schedule. We weren't actually planning on having kids until we had been married for a few more years, but now that we have Ava, we couldn't imagine our lives without her. She already has Lucas wrapped around her little finger; she's going to be such a daddy's girl. He's taken a week off from work to be with us. Since I'm a journalist, I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home, so I don't have to worry about maternity leave in the traditional sense of the word. Which is good, because I don't think I could stand being away from my daughter for an entire day.
About six months ago, my brother Stephen and his wife Claire also welcomed a baby girl. They named her Audrey Caroline. She's absolutely beautiful, with reddish-brown hair like her dad and green eyes like her mom. Her brothers Noah and Bryce love her to bits and are already very protective. I know that she and Ava are going to be great friends when they grow up.
In other news, my brother Christian just got engaged to his girlfriend Samantha! They've been seeing each other on and off for almost three years now. Apparently, they went on a vacation together in Aspen and decided to go skiing one day. Samantha was riding up the lift by herself because she thought Christian was at the lodge, but when she got to the top of the slope, he was waiting on bended knee with a ring. He had hardly gotten the proposal out of his mouth before she said yes. We're all so excited for them! They're planning to have the wedding in about a year, so that Audrey will be old enough to be the flower girl.
Sophie and her boyfriend Cal are still going strong. Neither of them think they're ready to take it to the next step -- marriage -- but they're thinking about moving together to New York.
Unfortunately, Lucas' younger brother Frankie and Frankie's girlfriend Violet have broken up. They had been going out for about a year. Frankie said that Violet was more in love with the idea of having a boyfriend than she was in love with her actual boyfriend. Frankie had also been dedicating a lot of his time to practicing soccer and never got to spend it with Violet. He seems to be over the breakup, however, since he just started going out with another girl, Hannah.
