[Surname] Re: German Surname Göcking/Goeking Help
Sort of a long shot ..."gock" is a cock or male bird. Perhaps it comes from a "proud person". The variations can usually be explained by regional dialects.I couldn't find anything else that was even close ...

Looking through a German dictionary I came accross the word Ing. It looks like it can be added at the end of another word. It indicates someone is an engineer. So maybe Gock (male bird) ing (engineer) were combined. Hmm... an engineer of birds? Can Gock be used to refer to something else?

Ing is short for Ingenieur (engineer). It's not added.
