I think it is of Arabic origins, can't remember the meaning at the moment though. I can't make up my mind about it, I guess it is somewhat pretty, but the 'bra' ending kind of turns me off it slightly.

Sabra is a pretty name. It is prn SAY-bra and is a French name that means "sword" or a Hebrew and Arabic name meaning "thorny cactus" I've also seen the spelling Zabra

I went to elementary school with a Sabra who pronounced it the same way. I think it's beautiful.

Was this girl, by any chance, in a pageant? Because I was watching a TV show about a girl in a pageant who's name was Sabra. Anyway, I've never heard this named before and it makes me think of some type of animal. I don't really like it.

I knew a Sabra in high school. She pronounced it the same way. She said it related to the Sabine women and the famous classical legend. I like it very much. It has class (literally), and sounds different without being made up. When asked about her name, your dd would have a verifiable story behind it. Bonus points.

Hi, julia Elizabeth ~
I've never heard this as someone's name. My understanding is that a sabra is a native-born Israeli.Even if it was/is a legitimate name, I'd never use it. It has a harshness that I don't like; it's sort of like Barbara which is another name I don't like.DH :-)

I just saw that too on Tiara Girls, right?
I didn't really like it... it reminds of of a sabre, like the sword or a sabre-tooth tiger.

The end of the name turns me off immediately.

That's exactly what I thought too.
