[Opinions] Baltazar
Baltazar is my current name fixation. WDYT? What's your favorite, or least despised, spelling: Baltasar, Baltazar, Balthasar or Balthazar? Could you picture it on someone other than a wise man? Do you think a Baltazar is pretty much destined to end up with the nn Balt? All other comments, anecdotes, whatevers welcome.

I love the name. I think of Shakespeare, as he used the name in some of his plays. I would so use the name if I ever could. It is dashing, handsome, and just all around great.

I see a demon.
It's a name that sounds a lot like a demon from Charmed. Even if it's not, I think a lot of people might also have that connotation.
It's nmsaa, and I think it would be a lot to saddle a child with.

I have an uncle and a cousin who are named Balthazar,Father and son. They go by Balta or LOL Baltz. You have to be careful of the pronounciation, but it fits them. My uncle was actually named after a great uncle of my Grandfather.
The Italian form is Baldassare

I prefer Balthazar
The young actor Balthazar Getty seems not to have suffered from being named this. Of course, his other name, Getty, probably buys him (or his parents, really, they picked it) a lot of slack, natch!
Seems to me the most obvious nn is Balto, which is also the name of a very famous canine. Desirable reference? Dunno. But it certainly sticks out in my mind. It's what I would call him, dog or no.

Proud daughter of Ann and John
Proud sister of Lauren and Leah
Proud wife of David
Proud mother of Alexander, Scarlett, Sophia, and Gideon

I like Baltazar. It reminds me of Sebastian Baltazar Bucks on the Neverending Story movie series. He was a child, so I guess the image of an old wise man is second to my image of the kid. I think it is a nice combo. I also believe there is a difference in the pronunciations of the names you listed. The first two I have heard pronounced Bal-tuh-czar whereas the last two I have heard Bal-thu-czar. I like both pronunciations. I also like all of the spellings, but I am not as keen on Baltasar simply because it looks like something is missing. I think if I was to know someone named Baltazar I would nn him something like Czar or Balty.
I hope that helps.

Do you ever watch Battlestar Gallactica? I can only think of Gius Baltazar. It seems like a better last name to me. And yes, Balt as a nn seems obvious and awful at the same time, sorry.
It's pretty awesome, especially spelled Baltazar. Don't know that I'd ever use it on a real person, though. When I used to watch "Alias", my dad, sister, & I would always mock the name when Balthazar Getty's face showed up on the screen, which probably had more to do with the fact that we didn't like his character. But still...it's an easily mockable name. And a Baltazar would be lucky to end up with the nickname Balt and not Balls, or something to that effect.
Balthazar Getty
Balthazar Getty is my aunt's brother, so I always associate the name (which I love!) with him. My aunt generally calls him by his full name, but he is called Balt, Balty, etc. Since this is a name site, his kids' names are Cassius, Grace, and Violet. His Violet is actually older than Jennifer Garner's daughter, so I found it funny when she used that name.

I dunno. There's something to be said for a nickname like Balls-to-the-Wall-tazar. :D

I love Baltazar and have for years. It's one of those I always forget about, but I think it's very smart-sounding. I can definitely see it on someone other than an old Biblical dude, hehe; I remember that there's a guy who worked at the pseudo-Japanese fast food restaurant (Sarku Japan, if you have one) at the food court. (What can I say? Going to the mall and walking around is a popular activity in my fam, lol.) So if it works on a cashier, it works on anyone.
If I had a Baltazar, I'd want to call him Taz.

Balthazar is my favourite spelling but I really can't see it on a real person. I think it would be a great pet name though
