[Opinions] WDYTO Idony?
Just curious as to what everyone thinks about the name Idony. It's been growing on me a lot lately, although I've actually liked it for a while. I think it has a lovely sound, and I love the meaning and associations that come with it. Do you think Idony is too out-there to use? How do you picture a girl called Idony? What sort of MN would you use?
Also, do you prefer Idonea, Idonia, or Idunn to Idony?

Well, I hear it and think irony.

I like it as Idonea best, then Idony, and I don't care for Idunn. (looks like "I dunno" typo-ed.)
I'd go with a traditional plain or traditional unusual but not off-the-wall middle name. Or I would use it for a mn with one of those types of first names. I don't think it's too out there to use, but I don't know that I would use it. Hm.

No, I don't think it's too out-there to use. Although I'd bet my eyeteeth you'll get that reaction a lot, since many people seem to be hostile to unfamiliar names just because they are unfamiliar. That's not unreasonable, either. But I don't feel that way.
Oddly enough, I actually prefer Idonia. I guess because Idony reminds me (in sound & structure only) of Ivory and Ebony. Although I like the thrifty, tidy ending with the Y. Idonea is a little too unconventional spelling/pronunciation-wise, to me, and looks fanciful because of that. I think if I used it I would use Idonia, and call her Idony. In case it looked too cute (not serious enough) on paperwork.
Idony has a great meaning - a lot like Persephone, but without the questionable etymology that seems to freak some people out.
I'd use a soft, expansive sounding middle name.. hmm.
Idonia Mara (nn Idony all)
Idonia Vesta
Idonia Charis
Idonia Natasha
Idonia Shannon
Idonia Sol
Idonia Pascale

I think its neat. A good name. However, I do notice a down point. It sounds similiar to iodine.
