I love the name Susannah - and you even spelled it with an H! However, I prefer Shoshannah, so want to use that instead. I don't think it would be a problem to use it even though your cousin's daughter is named that. I'd use it! I don't think I'd use a nn, but if need be, it would be Anna.

Shoshannah is really pretty but I find it hard to say...it doesn't flow of my tongue like Susannah does. Kind of sounds like I am lisping!
I am leaning towards Anna or Sanna at the moment and possibly using Annie when she is little. My cousin's daughter is Susie so I think I should avoid that no matter how much I love it By the way, I adore your combos Theodore Elliott and Chava Louise! I love Chava but it is basically unusable here because most people in Australia would associate it with the Fijian drink Kava.

I really like it. I'd use Sanna,Zannah or Suse for a nickname. Though Annie is cute too.

I love Susannah (or Susanna) and the nns Susie or Sanna.I don't really like the idea of having cousins with the same names, but I suppose if they had different nns and didn't see each other much it wouldn't be so bad, especially if you really love the name.I like Susannah Clare (spelt this way, of course ;) ) but I don't much like Aoibheann. What about Eibhlin instead? Some combos...
Susannah Caroline
Susannah Charlotte
Susannah Daphne
Susannah Laura
Susannah Mairead
Susannah May / Maeve

Susannah Daphne is very pretty! Eibhlin I love, but it is a mn I have picked out for the name Summer...also I think Aoibheann flows better.
Thanks for the suggestions!

I don't care for Susannah but a lot of other people seem to like it. You would know better than I would if it's a problem that your cousin's daughter is named Susannah. Do you see her often? Are you two close? Do you think she would mind? I have a large family and I only see most of my cousins' children once, maybe twice, a year so it wouldn't be a problem. Lots of my second cousins have duplicate names. But that doesn't mean that your family has the same dynamic as mine. I don't like the nn Susie unless it's on a child younger than five. Anna is nice.

I don't see her often anymore as she lives in Perth, but we are close. I don't think she would mind, or at least if she did, I don't think she would say so. We are a really close family and we usually never have duplicate names in the same generation, but duplicate names in different generations (such as Catherine- there are 5 of them in our family at the moment, but none are close to age, bar the two who married into the family.I am leaning towards Anna or Sanna at the moment

Susannah is a beautiful name. I prefer just Susannah, but I guess Anna would be my favourite nn. I'm not a fan of Annie or Susie. Susannah Claire
Susannah Juliet
Susannah Rose
Susannah Ivy
Susannah EliseI wouldn't worry about your cousin having a DD named Susannah. Unless you were very close. :)

Susannah Ivy is very pretty. I also like Susannah Elise but I am not sure if it would be egocentric or something to name my child after myself.

I adore Susannah. It's a shame I can't use Susanna (my preferred spelling) because I already have a dd named Anna. I could see myself using it as a mn, though.Favorite combos:Susanna Charlotte
Susanna Juliet
Susanna MargaretI like your combo too, especially Susannah Claire.EDA that my favorite nicks for Susannah are Susu/Suzu and Zuzu! I also like Sanna.

I can't believe I'm seeing this question now. I'm the one who wrote "When you're not thrilled with your baby's name...", and Susannah is the one I REALLY wanted. Sheeesh. So, obviously I LOVE it. It means "Lily" in Hebrew and is a far classier alternative to the way popular "treeless plain" Savannah. So use it, use it, use it! I love the nickname Susie (not Suzy). An older co-worker named her now 30-something daughter Susannah and she goes by the nickname "Sanna".
I wish I was in your position of actually being able to choose this perfect name.

Savannah and Susannah are very similar...I think you should have a go at calling her by Susannah for awhile

And another thing...I see that some folks have suggested Violet as a middle name to Susannah. My baby girl, the one that I wish I had named Susannah, has Violet as her middle name. Wow.

I love Susannah, although I prefer Susanna. My favorite nn is just plain Sue, but I like Annie too. I love the combo, very unique yet I prefer Claire spelt Clare. It depends on how close you are to your cousin. My cousin and I are very close and I see here almost about 2-3 times a week. So therefore I cannot name my daughter Brianna or any variant like Bria or Brielle. It's just too close.

I really like Susannah (prefer Susanna- the 'h' looks superfluous).Out of your nn's I like Susie. My favorite nn would be Sanna, pronounced Zanna.

Sanna is really pretty! I like that a lot! Thanks :)

Susannah, nn Susie is so cute! As for your cousin, I suppose it would depend on how close you are and how often you or your children run into each other. I would err on the side of not using it, but I know how hard it is to give up a name you love. Perhaps if you each call the child by a different nn, then that would solve the problem. Finally, if you do use it, I would check with her first. And what's with this French spelling of Claire? If you love Aoibheann so much, I declare you must spell it Clare. Susannah Mairead
Susannah Niamh
Susannah Maeve / Meabh
Susannah Aislinn / Aisling
Susannah Eibhlin
Susannah Emer
Susannah Brigid
Susannah Liadin
Susannah Maureen / Maire
Susannah Eve
Susannah Caroline
Susannah Georgina
Susannah Rosaleen

hehe Claire is the name of my cousin that I am closest to and also the name of my great-aunt and I would like to honour both of them :)My cousin and I are very close but she lives in Perth now (and I am in Sydney so the other side of the country) so I don't see her very often and our children wouldn't see each other that often. We do talk about 4 times a week though. Her Susannah goes by Susie so I might have to just stay right away from that nn even though I love it.Susannah Niamh, Susannah Mairead, Susannah Maeve, Susannah Eibhlin and Susannah Brigid are all gorgeous!
Thanks!

I like the name a lot, but I prefer the spelling Suzanna. I don't know why, but I don't like the h looks in the end, or the s.

I love Susannah, especially that spelling. My favorite combos for it are Susannah Lauraine and Susannah Scarlett. I wouldn't really use a nn for it if I were to use it, but I think I like Susie best.
Yes, you want her.
Look at her, you know you do.
Possible she wants you too.
There is one way to ask her.
It don't take a word,
not a single word.
Go on and kiss the girl.

I won't use a nn all the time or anything, but everyone's name in my family gets shortened inevitably so I would want it to be something I liked.
vote up1
I love itAnd the combo is beautiful! I would prefer Susannah Clare Aoibheann, but it's still great. And I do not think that your cousin's daughter's name should interfere too much :)My favorite nn would be Anna or Suze, but I prefer it without.
