I used to be from Texas and I can tell you that as a more modern place-name it would definitely be AB-i-leen. I don't think there is anything wrong with using it as a name, but Abilene Texas and Abilene Kansas, which pronounces it the same way, are definitely cow towns - even today. And I think that most people from either of those states or nearby states are going to make that association. If you don't mind that association, then I say use it: it's fun and different!!
