[Opinions] Mariah?
WDYT? Or is the first thing you think of Mariah Carey? I don't think it's popular. And I've never heard of anyone, regardless of age, with this name. Except for the singer, of course. lol

This name is really pretty. If you're worried about celebrity associations, you could spell it like Moriah. The pronunciation is nearly identical.
It's been growing I me and I like it. Actually I prefer the spelling Maria, which reminds me of Maria Mitchell. I do not think at all of Mariah Carey.
Loving Theodore and Chloe!
My first thought is Mariah Carey and that's too bad because it's a pretty name.

I like it; I don't immediately think of Mariah Carey. I've never really known any one named Mariah either, even though it is supposedly somewhat popular. In the end, I think it's a great name. :)
People, in general, would rather die than forgive. It's that hard. If God said in plain language, "I'm giving you a choice, forgive or die," a lot of people would just go ahead and order their coffin.

I like it...
but what I love is the similar Moriah. It's more interesting, I think, and sounds kind of cool, for lack fo a better word. Mariah is a sweet name but doesn't strike me enough to be a personal favorite. I do think of Mariah Carey but it's a neutral associatoin for me, and it would probably cease being my first connection if I ever met a Mariah in real life.

I worked with "high-risk" children for a year, and one of the 13 year olds (so now around 16) had this name, and she is who I think of. I didnt even think of Mariah Carey until you mentioned her...but I do not listen to her music or know of anyone that does. Is she still major in the music scene? If not, I wouldnt worry about it. If she is falling out, when a daughter is born (if you arent pregnant), no one but older adults will really remember the singer.
All in all...its not popular and I like it for that.

I think of Maria from Twelfth Night, because in the production I saw, her name was pronunced identically to Mariah.
Then I think of the Black Maria (also pronunced identically), the name of a band. I don't know their music (I saw an ad for their latest album in AP a while ago, is all), but their name always stuck with me as being really cool.
There is Mariah Carey, of course, but she's not my first association. I think it's a really great name.

i immediatelly think of mariah carey. sorry. otherwise it's a great name.
It's beautiful. I think somewhat of Carey but more of the folk song "They Call the Wind Mariah." It's a little bit popular, I guess, but I haven't run across any either.

I like it . . .
Despite the obvious Mariah Carey association, I think it's a lovely name.
In Jane Austen's time, Maria was pronounced ma-RIE-uh, the same as Mariah, so it has an old-fashioned sound to me.
I don't know if I'd use it because of its celebrity associations, but it's still nice.
