[Opinions] Gawain
What do you think? I personally love Gawain, it's quirky and seems really handsome to me, but as it has that really strong Authurian association I think it might be a bit too much on a real child. A bit pretentious even? Would Gavin be better?

I like both Gavin and Gawain, but I think I would more likely use Gavin over Gawain, it just sounds better to me. I think that the Arthurian association is not as strong as say Arthur or Lancelot (which I also love).

Love it! It's a handsome, wonderfully eccentric, and a very sophistocated name with a lovely magical feel to it. I actually prefer it to Gavin (though Gavin is nice enough, to). I have thing for "Knights of the Round Table" names :-)

Lol, me too. I love and would actually consider using Gawain, Kay, Arthur, Gareth, Tristan, Mark and Owain as first names. =) Lancelot and Percival (or Peredur) I really like too but I'd either use them as middle names or just keep them as guilty pleasures. Neither seem like they'd really suit a child somehow.

I think the problems would start if you pronounced it in the Welsh form. With an anglicised pronounciation, the child could always opt for "Wayne" for short. I believe that Gavin is the accepted modern form, although I share your love for the Romantic Gawain.

oh lord I ADORE this name and would personally use it myself except whenever I share it with somebody they're all like "that's so weird!" :(

I don't think it's pretentious, but I really don't like it. Reminds me of Wayne, Dwayne and Daine (I don't have great associations with two of those names nor do I actually like the sound). I would definately use Gavin instead.
