Nala I think is passable as a "real" name. Yes, there would be comments about "The Lion King" but not as much as with Simba, I don't think. Simba is more heavily connected with it, and seems like much less of a real-life name than Nala, imo. Simba is very African, and would seem odd on a non-African boy (or anyone who's not a cat, actually :-/). I know several house cats named Simba and Nala, though, so be aware that people might constantly say, 'Hey, that's my cat's name.' LOL.
