It doesn't mean "Mary of Sorrows", it just means "sorrows" (as a pet form of Dolores).
I don't like Lola, partly because there's a couple of slightly unsavoury songs with 'Lola' as the title character.

It's not because it's a pet form. Dolores itself just means "sorrows". If you read the database entry carefully you will see that that's what it says - the Mary part is in the saying, not in the word 'dolores'.
