Just so you know--Loki reminds me of lochia (LOE-kee-ah) which is postpartum bleeding of the mother after birth. Sorry, I'm a nurse. This is not a good association for a little boy's name.

. . . people will hear it how they want. The fact that three different people thought "ritalin" indicates that people would take the unfamiliar sound and try to make it "fit" with a familiar sound. Sometimes, also, people simply can't seem to reproduce the sound you say to them. (Remember the Enrique Iglesias song Bailamos from a few years ago? In the song this is clearly pronounced "by-la-MOR", but I heard all sorts of pronunciations from radio announcers, the most notable sounding something like "barley-moss"!)
