[Opinions] Gareth and Ellis
Replies
I really liked Gareth a lot, except I'm a little afraid of the nn Gary, which I don't care for much. (Then again, a child born these days... by the time he's old enough to be taking a nn, Gary might be right in style again!) Anyway, I love names with "th" sounds and Gareth is just nice sounding imo.
Then I got into the show "The Office" (Brit version) and it really makes me think of that weird character. So that's kind of a turn off. Up until that point I'd really imagined a Gareth to be handsome and likable.
Ellis was the name of an extremely awkward and nerdy guy I knew in high school. And I actually always found the name kind of too feminine. I'm not saying I'd like it on a girl. But I didn't really like it on a guy either. Kind of like Addison I guess, which I find too masculine for girls and too feminine for guys.

I like Gareth better. Ellis seems kinda dorky to me, and I think of Hollis, which is a girls name to me.
By the way, I was doing your poll, and you have it so we can't pick one of each symbol. It's a "one choice" poll!

"-yet, sadly, accidental rudeness occurs alarmingly often."

Oops. Hmm. Is there a way I can fix that? Or would I just have to create another poll?
have to create another.

sorry about the two messages! I didn't mean to post two.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Ellis!
I like Gareth. It's got a lovely soft sound. There's a chance it'll date him though, with Celtic names being so trendy right now. The only Ellis I know is a woman, and then there's the female author Ellis Peters (though apparently her real name is Edith) ... so I see that as a female name. Not to mention, it sounds the same as Alice in a posh Edinburgh accent :-)

Both are definitely interesting, but I would choose Gareth to avoid Ellis Island connotations.
