[Opinions] Boy on Girl Nicknames?
I know that the users here are very split over the boy names on girls controversy (most are greatly for or against). I'm kind of on the edge, some boy names are fantastic on girls and others are just ick to me. Lately I've heard a lot of girls with normal female names but male nicknames. I thought it gave old guy nicknames a nice spin.Johanna - Johnny
Sarah/Samantha - Sam
Nicole - Nick
Sharon - SeanI really like Nick and Sam, but the others I'm not so crazy about. I'm sure there are more. Seen any lately?

a friend said her cousin named her daughter Georgia or Georgina (Can't remember which) and was going to call her George so when she's working and people are saying "Don't mess with George" no one will expect a girl.Jules for Julia or Julianna (in My Best Friend's Wedding)*laurel*

I used to work witha lady named Bernadette Maxwell, and her nickname was Bernie Mack! lolSam is so common a nickname I don't even think of it as being boyish if I see it on a girl.
Some girls just naturally seem to wind up witha boyish nn, usually becaus they are tomboys and like to hang out with other boys.
I think Sean for Sharon is kind of a strech though. My husband's grandmother has several sisters (Geneva, Ethel, Mary-Lee and Annie, her name is Lillian) and one brother Tom. Her dad gave all the girls boys' names for fun:Lillian: PeteGeneva: JohnnyEthel: BillMary-Lee: DickyAnnie: JohnAnd the funny thing is, they STILL use them to this day while talking to or about each other: "Yeah, I went to the flea market with Bill and Johnny today and you should see the junk they bought!"

There are a lot of girl names with boyish NN is this post: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=602283&board=babyPersonally, I dislike boy names on girls and vice versa, but I think it's OK to have a boyish NN for a girly name if that's what the child wants. I think all NN should happen naturally, and if your little tomboy Johanna wants to by called Johnny, why stop her?
