[Opinions] Andie as a girl's nickname
Always thought it was cute, from Andie MacDowell, or a Molly RIngwald character. What do you think of it? It'd be a cute nickname for Andrea (obviously) but also Miranda. Any other suggestions?

I love it. And not for Andrea, that's boring. I like Andromeda nn Andy, and I love Andromache, it's really cool, but I don't know if anyone else agrees. All names with -and- sounds work, the obvious Andrea etc., and maybe Miranda, Amanda, Alexandra, but they sound kind of weird. Not really natural nns.My fave is Andromache nn Andy.

A friend of mine goes by Andie, as a nick name for Andrea. I think it's kind of cute, very lively and peppy (the Andie I know is a cheerleader), but ultimately not my style - a tad too "boyish" for my taste. As an aside, I think Miranda is a gorgeous name - I wouldn't even dream of shortening it. :)

Well my nickname is Andie, short for Andrea. I've never met anyone else that uses it as short for anything else but as mentioned earlier I think it would be cute as a nickname for Andromeda or any other And- names. If the name didn't start that way I probably wouldn't use it, too contrived.Proud Auntie!

It's cute. I like it best for Andrea, and also names that begin with "And" (Andora, Andra, Andromeda if you're feeling adventurous), but Miranda feels like a stretch to me (the obvious nickname for that being Randi).-- Sarah

I currently think of Anne Hathaway's character in The Devil Wears Prada (which was fabulous, by the way). And she was cute enough that I'm definitely more receptive to it than I was before.I really like Andromeda nn Andie (for someone else, though--I'd never use it, I don't think :). In general, I prefer it as a nickname for names where the sound isn't buried away too far--an Alexandria nn Andie would feel really contrived to me.Array
