[Opinions] Sailor (+ other such girls names)
I can't even recall where I read "Sailor" being used for a girl's name - I think it was a magazine, but I can't be sure. At first, I remember being completely appalled and horrified that someone would actually name their child this.
However - funny how these things work - I am now completely in love with this name. I especially love it with the middle name Jane.
Jane, I feel, helps to offset the peculiarity of the first name, and flows rather nicely.
While a lot of my other favorite girls' names tend to be, well, different.. I don't know if any of them really "go" with Sailor.
Sailor Jane
Scout Elisabeth (I might be crazy, but I love Sailor and Scout as a sibset. Would make a great twin-set, despite the cutesy factor.)
Arden Grace
Brenna Joy
Margaret Faith, "Greet"
Emerson, "Emmy"
Campbell, "Bella"
Violet
Caroline
Isla
Annabel

Imagine my surprise when I come on here for the first time and see my very own name in one of the subject lines. When I was younger I used to absoultely hate my name, I was made fun of and teased because of it, and what was the worst was that my family lived right on the ocean. It wasn't until I made it into my twenties that people started commenting how much they liked the unusualness and uniqueness of my name.
I wasn't given a middle name, but I do like the sounds of Jane as one. It does kind of offset the oddity of the first name.

Sailor
that is so funny. I just thought of Sailor as a name last night while, funny enough, watching Pirates of the Caribbean. I do love it.
the hard part for me is coming up with names that go with it, either as a fn or mn. if I think of some I'll post them here.
I'll complete the whole "high seas" theme to Sailor, Isla and I'll add Anchoret.
I like Emmy and Bella better than Emerson and Campbell.
also Scout is great.

I'm slowly falling in love with Sailor. I would never be able to use it though since my boyfriend was in the Navy for 6 years, it would seem like some sort of joke off of that. But I'm starting to consider it as a middle name.
Sailor Jane - I think it's ridiculous, sorry. I can't imagine having to go by a name like that. Saylor is better, at least I'm not picturing the poor kid in a little uniform all the time. You probably heard it as Christie Brinkley's daughter's name.
Scout Elisabeth - It's better than Sailor, mostly because of the nice Mockingbird association. As a twin/sibling pair though? Ick. Twins are cutesy-wutsy enough without having to be labeled as such.
Arden Grace - I really dislike the hard sound of Arden. Very unfeminine. (And kind of makes me think "hard on." eek) Grace is incredibly overused as a mn.
Brenna Joy - This is very nice.
Margaret Faith, "Greet" - I have a bad association with Margaret myself, but I'm sure it's otherwise nice. Greet is very harsh and unappealing sounding to me.
Emerson, "Emmy" - Emerson is too masculine. Emmy, with the million Emma and Emilys out there is too common.
Campbell, "Bella" - Too masculine. And makes me think of the fat kid on the soup label.
Violet - Nice
Caroline - nice
Isla - Nice
Annabel - Love

Sailor & Scout are not acceptable to me.
I'm a child of the 90s, and as children of the 90s (ought to) know, the hugely popular anime Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon starred a group of magical girls called Sailor Senshi. And "senshi," which translates about to "soldier," was changed in the dub to "scout." So Sailor + Scout = not a good sibset, IMO. YMMV, of course.
I like Scout as a nickname for either sex, but it's a bit weak as a full name. I mean, even Miss Finch had Jean Louise to fall back on--surely your Scout could have a full name, too. ;) Sailor just doesn't sound pretty to me at all--it's like Taylor redux, and I'd die a happy woman if I never met another one of those. I have a certain weakness for Sayley, thanks to the book More Minds, but that's the closest I get.
As for your others, the only ones I have particularly strong feelings about are Emerson and Campbell. I can't stand them on girls and find them utterly twee and dateable. Emmy, I do like as a nickname, though my preferred Em- name is Emmylou. Bella is the sound a bullfrog makes when it croaks, so no thank you to that.
The others are...well, rather popular, but not bad names. Respectable enough, but nothing I'd ever choose--one long yawn. I'm getting sick of seeing Isla on these boards--my love for the name was effectively killed approximately a year ago, ha. And Annabel is one that makes me spit fire--I just can't stand it--but I don't object to other people's using it. ;)

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.
A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

I really like Sailor & Scout, but this board is pretty traditionalist so many won't like them at all. Christie Brinkley has a daughter Sailor.
Arden Grace - love Grace, Arden seems so harsh / tough.
Brenna Joy - its okay, I prefer Brynn to Brenna.
Margaret Faith, "Greet" - boring, but Faith as a first name is not bad. I also like Maguire nn Maggie.
Emerson, "Emmy" - love this name, its also Teri Hatcher's daughter's name. I love that it has a very feminine nn to balance out the masculine first name.
Campbell, "Bella" - nice, I prefer the nn Cammie as I love Bella as a nn for Isabella. I like the combination Campbell Violet.
Violet - beautiful
Caroline - I love it on one hand & find it boring on the other
Isla - not my style
Annabel - okay, I prefer Campbell or Isabella
Jaclyn / Jacks

I really dislike Sailor. Occupation names are way too impersonal to be first names, IMO. Also, it's impossible me to pair it with any middle name, because it just sounds like, well, the same as Captain Kirk, Doctor Livingstone, or Professor Snape, as if the first name was a reference to her occupation rather than a given name.
I dislike Scout, too. I don't see anything appealing in it.
I think Arden Grace and Brenna Joy are both quite boring, because they're both trendy names compared with overused filler middle names.
Margaret Faith is OK, though NMS. I love the nn Greet.
Emerson and Campbell are too much or surnames to be first names. Also, Emerson is way too masculine to be a girl's name because of the "-son" ending (meaning "son of").
Caroline is fine, and I really love the names Violet, Isla, and Annabel. They're very beautiful and elegant.

Ditto! I love Sailor. There's something about it! One of my niece's is called Scout and I really like it. They would make a great sibset! Also they go with Arden and Emerson IMO. I especially love Violet and Isla off your list.
