[Opinions] Re: Margie?
in reply to a message by Lawruh
My mother was Margaret (nn Margie). She really didn't care for Margaret that much, however, she did enjoy being called Margie. It's not my favorite nick for Margaret. I personally prefer Meg, Daisy, Maisie, Margo or Maggie (in that order), but Margie's not bad. It could definitely work. I used to work with a Margie who was in her early 20's. I can picture it on a young person.
In the past, I've considered Margaret to honor my mother but never really went for it because it's harsh sounding to me. Now that she has passed away, believe me, I wish I had used it as a mn for one of my three dds. Because I consider Margaret to be quite the opposite of a youthful name, the mns I've considered are lighter in tone. My favorite Margaret combo is Margaret Susanna. I also like Margaret Elizabeth.
There are certain Margaret nns that I distinctly dislike. Marge, Greta/Gretl and Peg/Peggy are on that list.
