I wish a Pope would revive a very old name like Anacletus, Evaristus, Sixtus, Pontian, Boniface or Urban. I like the more ''out there'' names!!

But I know it's not realistic. I suppose Popes nowadays don't wish to appear to ''out of this world'' and will probably lean towards a name that is more relatable to believers.

I don't know why but I immediately thought Pius. If it is a two part name I would like to see Maria as the second name. It's traditional for men in many Catholic countries. It won't be Peter because Peter III is the current pope of the schismatic Palmarian Catholic Church.

I'm rooting for Clement. Pope Clement sounds nice.

Don't choose Alexander or Sixtus as your papal name. Pope Sixtus IV started a little thing called the Spanish Inquisition, and Pope Alexander VI and his family were debauchery incarnate. Why not follow your predecessor's example and choose something new? Like Andrew or Patrick? Just a thought.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get a John Paul III.

A Leo would be fun. Clement would be cool! Love to see more Clems in the world. Or Gregory. Pope Gregory, sounds like an average guy, a guy who really gets people. Working man's pope.

I don't know anything about popes really, I'm not sure which way the wind is blowing politically there. I know that popes usually choose a name that will indicate what kind of pope they'll be. A new name would be exciting, but I bet they won't do that again.

I dunno. I hope we get a new papal name or at least one we haven't seen in a while.

I have no one idea. It'll probably be something boring, though I'll hope for a unique name without a regnal number or one of the weird old ones. I think Celestine and Linus sound most interesting, out of the other responses, and I like Joseph best of the common ones.

The identity of the next pope and where he is from will play a large role. Victor I was the first pope born in the African continent (I believe he was a Berber), so perhaps another pope from Africa would choose to be another Victor?

There are several cardinals from India, but I there hasn't been a Pope from India before. I can imagine Oswald Gracias choosing too be another Francis or Joseph.

Leo and Clement are safe guesses, but I'd like to see a name they haven't used in a while like Anicetus, Celestine, or Sergius.

Depends who it is. If it's Tagle, I can see another Francis (is that too bold?) Maybe a John. For Parolin - Benedict or Leo? I can see one of the conservative candidates becoming John Paul III.
