[Opinions] High School Varsity Sports
A local high school has put up lamppost banners on the street around their school with the pictures and names of some of their varsity student athletes. A lot of interesting names—very Gen Z for sure, but also some wild cards like Cannon and Texas (no, this is not in Texas).
Elias
Finn
Cannon
Beckham
Abe
Manuel
Brody
Braulio
Bonus, the Catholic school next door put up similar banners with their student body reps:
Eleanor
Delaney
Aziza
Texas
Final question: Do you find it strange / potentially dangerous when high schools put up these kinds of banners / posters / marketing in public places with a students photo and full first and last name? Most of these kids are probably 16 or 17, so I find it a little sketchy.

Twenty years ago, those children's names and faces would have appeared in the local newspaper(s). Now, I think lamp-posts are probably better than the internet. Unless the schools have sites of their own to which only parents and learners have access, though this is by no means easy and there is no guarantee that the wrong people won't find them for the wrong reasons. My feeling is, when in doubt, don't.
Ah you're very right! 15 years ago I was one of those kids in a local newspaper, now that I think about it. My parents still have the newspaper clipping—three classmates and I had scored relatively high on some college prep exams in middle school and got invited to get an award at the state university.
