I met a Herveline this week and thought it quite charming. French pronunciation with a silent H.

That must have been a treat! Herveline is definitely one of those names that looks questionable on paper but if you met one in real life it would surprise you with how likeable it is. I love names like that. I had a similar experience when I met a Huguette once.

Sounds old fashioned and not in a good way. I do speak French so I know I am pronouncing it correctly. In an English speaking country it sounds country bumpkin. Probably because of its similarity to other names I see that way.
