[Opinions] Re: Okieriete

Um... I live in Africa and travel quite a bit. I have heard and read a lot of Nigerian names with O and IE next to each other, but this one makes me feel a bit dyslexic. If this child is going to grow up in Nigeria... Yoruba (?) names tend to not be super gendered, so depending on the meaning, it's unlikely to cause a stir if used for a girl. If this kid is going to grow up in the US... maybe use it for a middle name? Otherwise, consider sending her to school with a business card equivalent so she can just show teachers etc how it's spelt, it will save her a lot of time.
ETA: Okay, I checked. It's a unisex Edo/Bini name. You won't have any issues around gender. The meaning can be broken down as follows:
"Okie" or "Oki" – In Edo names, this can be linked to a positive affirmation or an expression of something significant.
"Riete" – This could be connected to blessings, destiny, or gratitude.
So it's like "I'm grateful I was blessed with a child" for example, though the meaning would be context dependent as many African names are.
If she is born in the US today, I would caution you to consider how many people in her immediate environment will remember an actor from Hamilton when she starts school.
