[Surname] What does the Georgian suffix -dze mean?
I know that the last name Svanidze comes from the name of the Svans (Georgian subethnicgroup), but does the last name mean "a Svan" or "from Svaneti" or "child of a Svan" or something else?

I found this in Wikipedia: “-dze (-ძე): meaning "son":[3] from western and eastern Georgia.[4] E.g. Abashidze, Arveladze, Kaladze, etc.”
Wiktionary has "From Old Georgian ძჱ (ʒē), ძეჲ (ʒey, “son”)." (IPA d͡ze).
Most of these surnames have the characteristics of dithematic names, rather than compounded names like Anderson, except for გიორგაძე giorgaʒe from გიორგი giorgi (from Greek Georgios)+ძე son
