I was surprised to know it was a New Zealander name with history. I thought it was a newfangled trendy early-2020s invention whose usage is restricted to the United States.
Anyway, I don't really like it since it looks artificial and childish. I would have spelt it Linley instead - it looks more established.
As for its boost in popularity, I can't find a reason either. But Lynley has the same vibe as Valmai, another New Zealander name.
