Rose-Marie and Johann are now happily married and welcomed a son a few years back. After DS2 was born, Rose-Marie decided to become a stay-at-home mom and took up pottery in her spare time, quickly becoming quite skilled. However, the Webers face a challenge with Johann's teenage daughter Jules, who has developed a rebellious streak. On more than one occasion, Johann and Rose-Marie have caught her attempting to sneak out, and her once-strong grades have started to decline, leaving them increasingly concerned about her future. Meanwhile, Nadir, overwhelmed by the intense hours and responsibilities of his job as a marine biologist, hit a breaking point a couple of years ago. Feeling that the joy he once found in his work had vanished, he made a spontaneous decision to pack up and go to Turkey to "reconnect with his roots" for a while. What he didn’t expect was to fall head over heels for a woman he met during his first week there. After only a few months of dating, she discovered she was pregnant—with twins. Faced with this unexpected turn of events, Nadir chose to stay in Turkey to support his girlfriend and their daughters. However, back in the States, his son Altan's resentment toward his father’s sudden departure began to grow. Although Nadir arranged for Altan to visit during summers and holidays, the boy’s dismay at his father's decision remained palpable.

All is well for the Bentzen family. Ståle started playing soccer (football) last year, and has been obsessed with the sport ever since, watching local games with his father on weekends, and practicing in their backyard all the time. Grethe does not share that same fervor for sports, she prefers spending her days with DD2 playing with their dolls or painting, although DD2 sometimes prefers to be roughhousing with her brother, much to Grethe's dismay.  DS2 is a sweet, but equally busy toddlers and has proved to be quite the handful for Astrid, especially with three other young children in the house.

After having two kids, Thaddeus and Etta were unsure if they wanted more. Etta had found a fulfilling job as the orchestra director at a local school, and Thaddeus’s library was becoming busier by the day. However, as Madeline and Cass grew a little older, they decided they wanted to expand their family just a bit more. Now, their cozy cottage is almost bursting at the seams, but they couldn’t be happier. Madeline continues to be an avid reader and excels in academics. Her talents are so pronounced that she skipped a grade in school, though she still feels unchallenged by the curriculum. On the other hand, Cass has struggled with learning to read. Despite Thaddeus and Etta’s best efforts, she has shown little interest in reading and continues to find even the most basic words difficult.
