[Opinions] Thoughts on the name Chance for a girl?
Thoughts on Chance for a girl?
Replies
I dislike it on both genders.
I don't think it's the best name for a girl, but sincerely, I don't like it much on a boy either, it doesn't sound much like a name.
If you wanted to name her Chance for the direct meaning, here are some alternatives i suggest, (from more youthful to more mature in my opinion):
Destiny
Hope
Serenity
Speranza
Serena
Elpis
Desideria
If not obvious enough, these are simply suggestions. If you wanna go with the name Chance, you are free to do that.

Its not very feminine.
Definitely not a fan of the name on a girl, however, it’s one of my favorite names on a boy.
Really unattractive.
Not a fan
I actually prefer it on a girl, weirdly. It's way hokier on a boy.
I'm not the hugest fan of this name in general, because it's such a commonplace word (spoken as someone who goes by the nickname "Will": even though word names can be cool sometimes, they are also VERY confusing at times). I do know of one woman named Chance (who is around 22 years old now); she does seem to kind carry the name nicely, as a tomboy, in my opinion. But either way, I'm not a fan of this name on anyone, and I find it more masculine than feminine (despite the Chance I know, who is actually the only person named Chance that I know).
On a girl? No way. On a boy? Maybe.
Not a chance!
😆
The only Chance I ever knew of personally was a horse. A male horse. It seems silly on a human.
It's the name of a perfume by Coco Chanel, so to me it doesn't seem totally outlandish on a lady type. I mean, I know it's a regular word as well, but it has that association to something typically "feminine" so it's not as abruptly masculine as something like James.
I can see it on a girl, is what I'm saying. It does sound like it should be the name of a scrappy heroine from a romance novel - the kind where it's a big problem that her hair is just so annoyingly full and lustrous, her eyelashes are too long, and her skin has a sprinkling of adorable freckles that she hates with a passion; that kind of thing.
I think it could work as a self-chosen name. I would have hated my childhood even more if my name had been Chance, though. My god I can't even imagine.

Agree

Nope 👎🏼😖 not good on a boy, but especially not good on a girl. Always makes me think of a man with a beer belly that lives in a trailer, chain smokes, and yells at the neighbor kids while also being too creepy and weird with them.
Not a good name for anybody.
Don't like it at all, don't like it for a boy either
