[Opinions] Salvia
What do you think of the name Salvia? What sort of person would you imagine having this name? What middle name would you choose? What do you think of the nicknames Sal, Sally, and Via?
:)

Makes me think of saliva or the drug.
So, I'm very innocent and just found out that Salvia was a popular hallucinogenic drug in the early 2000s! I read some stories about the kind of trips people have on salvia and they all sound like absurdist nightmares (like "I turned into a bucket of water and a giant came and picked up the bucket and threw it against the Great Wall of China and I spent 1000 years evaporating off the stones" or "I entered the Fabric Dimension where every substance in the universe was living, sentient flannel")That gives Salvia a different sort of feeling! Still hippie, but also dark, like... psychedelic Gothic. It's kinda scary. I like it more now!
I thought about it a long time ago, when I was doing that thing some of us do, where you nerd out trying to find botanical genera that could be human names. Added it to a list. I don't think it's a great candidate, although it has some appeal.I can't decide if it sounds hippie (sage) or religious (salvation), or if it reminds me of salve...
I think I'll go with hippie style. Like Sage, but with a spiritualistic vibe, less "nonbinary".Salve makes me think it could be pronounced Savia.
Then it could also be spelled Savia. Like Savvy-uh.
Oh, look! https://www.behindthename.com/name/savia/submitted I wonder how that's pronounced.I like Sal and Sally. Via is too synthetic, unless there were stress on the VI syllable. I don't think there is a name that has a stressed VEE-a.
I much prefer Sylvie and Sylvia, this makes me think of saliva..
On one hand, it's quite hippyish. On the other hand, I love it! It's one of my favourite plant names. It's not as exaggerated as Honeysuckle nor as boring as Daisy (although I like it); it's in the middle. I think it can work in real life.Salvia Beatrix
Salvia Cecily
Salvia Daphne
Salvia Eloise
Salvia Genevieve
Salvia Juliet
Salvia Maeve
Salvia Noelle
Salvia Penelope
Salvia RowanAs for the nicknames, I like Sally and Via, and think Sal is too plain, however, I'd choose Vivi as a nickname.
Sounds religious. Makes me think of salvation.
Salvia would be the kind of person whose parents didn't think hard enough about how easy it could be to confuse Salvia with Saliva. As such, she'd probably be the kind of person who changed her name as soon as the law permitted.
Agreed
I think like Delphinium it is a pretty plant name not too sure it works well on a human. Sally would work as a nickname for me Sal makes me think male. I would prefer V over Via as a nickname but I think V could work but I guess there are a few in my family that go by letters so it doesn't seem odd. My husband calls our daughter Z and her name doesn't start with Z. It is a little confusing at the stage of life because she now thinks Z is the first letter of her name and it is not.
I like this in theory, but my dyslexia turns this plant name into "saliva" every single time I see it. For that reason I think it would be a great character name, or maybe a cool online handle or pseudonym! But as a real name for a real person I'm iffy on it... Maybe if the person is like really devoted to being a hippy, that could work. As a self chosen name I think it could be fun. On a kid I'm not sure.Salvia "Sally" is really amazing. It's so eccentric, my kinda thing!I picture a woman with fluffy, bobbed, carrot ginger hair, definitely not a natural shade, who is about 65 and loves life. She's got that quasi-hippy retired Boomer energy I admire - she makes a mean "Sex in a Pan" and loves Fleetwood Mac and gin and tonics, and you're pretty sure she has Swingers parties (but that's just a rumor going around the cul de sac) and her azaleas are the envy of the entire neighborhood.Oh middle names!! I forgot.Salvia Emmeline
Salvia MargoIt's a tough one to combo!

I had the same thought
Yes i thought of saliva too and too close to Sylvia
Salvia is one of my favourite garden plants :) I do think it will be confused with Sylvia, but this is so much prettier. Via (vee-a) is a cute nickname, I actually really like it!
Salvia Heliantha
Salvia Anise
Salvia AuriniaSalvia Elizabeth - because Elizabeth is always a good option
I know it's a botanical name, but it makes me think of some kind of ointment you'd put on a burn.
Sally is cute, but if you want to use something as distinctive as Salvia, I'd say don't plan ahead to use soething so ordinary as a nn.
Via doesn't feel like a real nn to me, it feels contrived even if it's a legitimate part of the name. I mean, how many Olivias or Sylvias go by Via?Sal sounds like a mobster's name. (I know a Sal, and he's not a mobster, as far as I know, but he is very, very Italian.) Ditto Salvie.
