I am so glad this thread exists! My grandmother’s name was OSITHŽE, pronounced aww-zi-TE with the emphasis on the last syllable, in the French style. She was born in St. Agatha, Maine, in 1912 with a strong French Canadian roots and we always thought native american as well.
Like others have mentioned, her name has been spelled in several different ways, including Osithée, Ozithe, and everyone knew her simply as”Dolly.” She had 12 brothers and sisters, and she was named after her mother, who died in childbirth. Her mother’s name was Osithée (Albert) Michaud. I know how exciting it was for me to find this thread and read about others with connections to this name, so I wanted to share mine in the hopes it helps others.
