[Opinions] Re: Atlantic Hurricane 2024 Names
in reply to a message by Amphelise
I have read about such studies, but I am not convinced. Hurricanes change in intensity over the course of their existence, and unfortunately many areas are across-the-board poor at planning for storms. New Orleans, for one; they had been neglecting their levee system for decades despite the city being pretty much at the bottom of a bowl. They still haven't done as much as they should to prepare for the next big storm.
Just too many variables for me to wholeheartedly believe that the sex of the name of a hurricane influences whether people in its path take it seriously.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes!
