During Frankie and Circe's East African sojourn (as suggested by Laura B.) a love triangle unfolded between them and another gentleman in the party. For Circe, this was a typical Thursday night. For the two men, it was life and death.
One night, Circe retired to her tent, but was woken up by a confrontation between the two men. She was not going to intervene, until the shouts were interrupted by a gunshot ringing through the air. All of the hunters rushed out of their tents. When Circe arrived at the scene, she saw Frankie, pale and shuddering, standing over the corpse of their paramour over these past few weeks, who was sporting a gunshot wound to the head.
Frankie swore the fellow hunter had committed suicide, and the party was inclined to believe him. After all, who would want to get involved with the colonial authorities anyway? They might say something horrid like "don't leave the country", and that would ruin auntie's anual holiday at the French Riviera. But Circe was not satisfied, and Frankie dashing off the very next morning did not assuage her doubts. She came to The Nightingale's Nest to get to the bottom of what happened between the two men.
This new guest, on the other hand, carries a degree of middle-class respectability (something rarely encountered at The Nightingale's Nest). But occasionally, the Hastings' will invite a member of the labouring classes to their residence. After all, Mr. _______ isn't something tawdry like a lawyer or a doctor.
No, Mr. _______ is the nez of King George himself, and thus, the favourite perfumer of the aristocracy. Such is his talent that his origins as a simple Cornish barber are forgiven. Having risen from lowly positions, Mr. _______ is elegant and confident, but never superior. He is friendly to everyone, and knows just enough about every topic that everyone likes to converse with him. And, of course, he is the author of the fragrances half the ladies and gentlemen are wearing tonight.
