All the Scotties I saw were going to be girls, and the parents said they just thought it was cute.

Interesting! I realized that I think "Scottie" just means a Scottish terrier vs. "Scotty" which is a nickname for Scott. I've never heard of Scottie on a girl, and if I did see it I'd expect it to be from the generation that called girls Bobbie, Billie, Frankie, etc.

A very dear friend at uni was known as Scottie or Scotto, his ln being Scott. Now nobody uses it, but I sometimes have to remember - just in time - to call him Ian instead. So that would be my guess, and not an attempt to honour a Scottish terrier. My favourite breed of dog, but there are limits.

Well, Scottie entered the US popularity chart randomly last year! Very curious.
