[Opinions] Scott in 2024
Last night, I saw the news that Kid Cudi (real name Scott) got engaged, and I was wondering, is Scott an "expired" name? I think it's one of the better 1-syllable names, but I imagine a 25-45 year old when I hear it.

I think Scott is certainly not an "expired" name. In fact, I tend to think that there are no "expired" names, except in certain cases such as Adolf or Gaylord.
It's definitely dated but I think it's still usable, especially as a middle name. I've seen "Scotty" on a young kid recently and that seemed normal, but if he went by "Scott" it would have seemed like his name didn't match his age.One thing I've noticed about Scott is that it seems a little too corporate. I'm constantly seeing SCOTT brand logos everywhere. I think it's really just two brands, the sporting goods company and the toilet paper company, but both of those are so ubiquitous that it feels like there are a ton of brands around called Scott. I've never tried to count the number of times I see Scott logos in a day, but if you go skiing and then use a public toilet it will be a lot. Plus bikes and whatever else the sporting goods company sells.(I used to like the idea of Scotland as a first name with the nickname Scot. I've met people named Ireland so maybe it's not that weird, but I can't think of an actually good reason to name someone after a random country.)

I do find it dated.
I love the name Scott.
I don't think its expired. I won't say it is until it completely disappears from the US Top 1000. Being up there among the most popular names in decently populated country is a wild feat. Even names I don't care for: Ashley, Rebecca, Richard, Robert... they're boring but not expired. I do actually like Scott, though. I wouldn't mind meeting one because I never have. That might be why it sound less tired than the others. I can only think of two fictional characters at the top of my head, and they don't ruin it for me.
I would be momentarily, fleetingly surprised to meet a baby Scott. It’s dated, but dated male names seem to have greater longevity than dated female names. Scott fits in with Graham, Reid, Max, and the like.
come to think of it, there may already be baby Scott's out there who're named after their 50-60 year old grandfathers.
Well, I have met four men (well, one is a boy named Scot) named Scott; one was 50, one is 39, one is 35 this year, and the other is now 17. Anyways, I think that Scott is such a handsome name; I have always absolutely loved it. It just sounds like a cool name, and every bearer that I've met is awesome.
I’d say it’s a little dated, but I’m a fan of Kylie, Megan, Margaret, Tara and I love Helen. It’s still good and will age well.
I know a ~5 year old Scott, but only the one.
It's a little dated, but nice i know a little Scott about 4
I think it's a little dated, but not too much.
Most of the people I know named Scott are between 33 and 55 years old. I do know one (now adult) though who would have been around 4/5 years old when I did a placement in a nursery back in 2001/2002 so he would now be mid/late 20s. While I don’t think it’s ready for a full revival here it last ranked at 85 in 2014 so I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a young Scott.
I imagine a 50 year old and I think it is expired.
