The Breton way to say Alana is "uh-lah-na" but the English way uses the short A. I prefer long As in most feminine names. I think they sound softer.

Regarding Ambrose I think I've heard it said that way in real life but I may have just misread BTN's pronunciation key again. DX

I don’t know where you have heard Alana said, but every Alana I have known in England and Australia has had “ah” in the middle.
