[Opinions] Thoughts on the name Moody for a girl?
Thoughts on Moody?

Replies

I usually don't say this, but it's awful.I just listened to "Moody River" by Pat Boone (don't ask), and it's all I can think of. Aside from that, it's just a deeply unpleasant name.
What nonsense.
I would never name a child this. Maybe a pet or a character in a story. It reminds me of ‘Moody's Point’, a sketch on “The Amanda Show” where Amanda Bynes played a girl named Moody.

I wonder if she'd get called Moody Blues.I'm kind of ok with it? As in, I think I'd rather be Waverly, Saturnina, Stormy, Pansy, Misty, Blue, Marley, Temperance, Dolores, but it wouldn't bother me to have as a name more than Harper, Tempest, Maudlin, Paisley, Caprice, Lacey, Vanity, Modesty, Mourning, Fawn would, and I don't hate it the way I do my least favorite names (for example, Ainsley, Frankie, Khaki, Dixie, Tyranny). I'd go through a phase of resenting it (this seems somewhat common with whatever name) and then get over it; I'd tell people to call me Mo or my middle name or else I'd embrace it and be chill about being called Moody. It's not a name I'd consider giving.

As a moody person, I dislike it as a name. I know that Moody is a surname but if Pretty were a surname, I wouldn't name a daughter that either. Moody in particular is a negative word.
It could be a charming pet name (within the family), maybe for Margaret.
Actually, I kind of look it as a stretch NN for Margaret,
Yeah, like others have implied, it seems a heavy name to bear for a kid. To me, it would be the equivalent to Misery, Melancholy or Despair.
it's bad for a girl or a boy ...It's like naming someone Grumpy or Grouchy.
In fact, it sounds like it ought to have been one of the Seven Dwarfs.
Seems like one of the worst surnames-as-first-names.
Worse on a girl, since they are more likely to be criticized for "moodiness."
I think it has no appeal whatsoever, except maybe as a joke pseud.
If I heard the sound "moody" as some gal's name, I would strongly tend to assume that it is a foreign name, or short for one, like when I hear someone's name sounds like Harsh or Loose ... I would disbelieve that she could actually have been named Moody. Because Moody would be that bad as a name.
All I will say is..."be very careful what you wish for".Naming a child Moody may encourage a self fulfilling prophecy.
It's a bad idea. Try Caprice, it at least has a nice sound.
Awful. WHy would you do that to your child???
I want to be nice, but this is truly awful. Imagine being named Emotional, Capricious, Sulky, Gloomy, Sour or Doleful? I get that Moody has origins as a surname apart from being a word for a grumpy person, but one must remember that a child is a human being, not a pet. The sound of the name itself is quite distasteful. Why not Judy, Maddy or Trudy?
