I don't see it as a fad because I don't recall it being popular. I'm unsure if it ever will be. I like it because it's different from Rose, but it sounds a tad snooty because of the Prim part. Honey on the other hand sounds soft, warm and loving... but also childish and frail similar to Fawn, Babby or Baby.
I would make "out there" names like Honey and Primrose the MNs. Definitely usable there, Primrose more so.
