I used to think of
Mary and
Cheryl as dreadfully dull and plain. They just sounded like nothing in my ears. Then suddenly I heard these passé, outmoded names used on bright-faced little girls (
Mary was in a movie,
Cheryl was in a book) and it's like something suddenly clicked in my head. I saw the innocence and beauty in the names, they came off as very sweet and fitting to the characters. After running
Mary and
Cheryl through my mind's voice a little longer, I finally saw the appeal.
Sometimes it takes a new perspective to refresh a name for you.
To the opposite, I used to absolutely love
Octavia,
Elizabeth, and
Amelia once. They all eventually lost their spark and now come off as humdrum to me.
