[Opinions] Abilene
Was suggested to me and I think I like it.I don't think it would be stylish now, because of the many Abbys around, but I do think it sounds better than Abigail.Doesn't have the same history, though, but it's not modern.Thoughts on Abilene?

I really like it and think it would make a nice alternative to Abigail, but I wouldn't use it myself. The middle part of the name makes me hesitate, but it does sound very beautiful despite of that.
I think it's pretty, like a cool twist on Abigail!
All I can think of is Abilene.I read an article about Eileen the other day and the fact that it's coming back in popularity. It will be interesting to see if that applies to all lene/leen names or just Eileen.
I like a similar name Aibileen, pronounced "A bah lean" a character in the novel/movie The Help
The leen sound is pretty dated. Abilene sounds very faux-Western to me, like a fictional character more than a real person.
In the book and movie "The Last Picture Show" there is a character, a rich oilman named Abilene. It's never clear if it's his first or his last name or just a nickname. In the book "The Good Brother" a woman has two sons, both named after the places she met their fathers in; one is Abilene and the other is Dallas.
So you can see why it has a fictional vibe to me.
For me, I prefer Abilene to Abigail.
I love it so much. I love the twang of it, and the fact that it's a Biblical place name. So much more interesting and romantic than Abigail, which I've never been fond of.
Thanks.
I prefer Abigail, Abilene seems old fashioned with all the other leen names
I love it! adding it to my list.
I'm not fond of place names for people, and I find Abby an unattractive nn. Abilene, where I live, would be much too close to Abalone for comfort. Abalone farming is an important industry here.
Yeah, I came here to say Abilene reminds me too much of Abalone. Else I’d like it. :)
